Dear parents,
Every July, I feel that time goes by particularly fast, as we soon have to say goodbye to our graduating students. I still remember the lovely K1 class, and I will miss them dearly! But I am also very happy for them, as they have grown so much in knowledge, stature, and confidence.
In early June 2024, scholars from the Hong Kong Institute of Education and overseas education experts visited our school. Dr. Alfredo from the Hong Kong Institute of Education told me that the English proficiency of our K3 students was excellent, even better than the kindergarten students he had visited, as they could actively interact with the visitors in English and answer questions naturally. He arranged for another group of overseas scholars to visit our school at the end of June. I am proud and delighted for our K3 children.
Furthermore, June is the time for primary one placement results. This year, the results are excellent – only 2 of our students were assigned to their second choice, while the rest got their first choice. We have also been collecting information about our outstanding alumni, and found that many of our graduates have achieved excellent results. Even a graduate from last year’s cohort received the Academic Performance Award (Grade 1) at Tai Po Old Market Public School (Po Wu Road) for the 2023-2024 academic year. I am happy and encouraged by the achievements of our students.
Our school is committed to finding different resources to enrich the learning experiences of our children. Here are the learning activities planned for the next school year:
Our school has successfully applied for a grant of $149,700 from the Quality Education Fund to implement the “My Commitment to Action – A Different Kind of Toy” project from September 2024 to August 2026. The project will launch learning activities related to national education and national security education to strengthen children’s sense of national identity.
Our school has also applied for funding from the Yan Oi Tong Choi Wong Ling Ling Education Foundation for the 2024-2025 academic year to hire an experienced Chinese ink painting instructor to provide 10 sessions of ink painting classes for our K2 and K3 students.
Our school has successfully applied to participate in the Hong Kong Institute of Education’s research project “Applying Game-based Teaching Methods to Robotics Programming Activities: The Impact on Preschoolers’ Classroom Engagement and Computational Thinking.” This will allow our children to interact with programming robots and understand the development of their computational thinking.
Last but not not least, the K3 handbell music classes are always much anticipated. Some of our graduates who are now in primary and secondary schools have shared that their schools have handbell teams, and they hope to join them. It is not easy to get into handbell teams in primary and secondary schools, and we hope our graduates will fulfill their wishes.
In addition to the above activities, there are many other interesting and inspiring activities for the children to participate in throughout the curriculum. Education emphasizes whole-person development, and our school hopes to provide our children with diverse learning experiences from a young age. By exposing them to different learning areas, we aim to help them better understand their abilities and interests, and cultivate good character, so that they can proactively progress on their growth journey. Finally, I wish our K3 graduates a healthy and happy journey as they embark on the next stage of their lives in primary school.
